What Is Mindful Belly Dance? + How to Prepare for a class

Mindful Belly Dance is more than a movement practice—it's a way to reconnect with your body, your creativity, and your inner rhythm. After almost 20 years of teaching belly dance, I created this class to offer something I felt was missing: a space where dancers of all levels could move with intention, confidence, and self-awareness.

Why I Created Mindful Belly Dance

I began developing Mindful Belly Dance after noticing a pattern in my technique classes. Many students—whether beginners or professionals—were asking the same questions:

  • How do I feel more confident in my dancing?

  • How do I connect with my body, not just perform the moves?

These questions led me to create a class that focused less on "getting it right" and more on tuning into the moment. I began integrating themes, somatic tools, and multi-sensory experiences like candlelight, tea, and essential oils. The result? A practice that supports body awareness, self-expression, and deeper presence on and off the dance floor.

What to Expect in Class

No mirrors. No pressure. Just movement, music, and mindfulness. In person, the room is often candle-lit, with soft lighting, tea, and grounding rituals to help you drop in. Online, I guide you in setting up your space to support focus and comfort—dim lighting, a favorite tea, essential oils, or even your pet as your dance buddy.

Each class is different. We might explore drum rhythms, new moon energy, props like veil or sword, or emotional themes like softness, strength, or creativity. But the core remains the same: mind-body connection through belly dance.

Who It's For

This practice is for everyone. New dancers, experienced performers, and anyone looking to move intentionally. There's no “level”—only your presence.
